THIS EXISTS. AND IT WAS YESTERDAY. I literally just learned of it. I found out about it on this really awesome cosplayer's deviantART: "Apparently it was yesterday (August 27). I'm a little disappointed in myself for being unaware of this until having just checked my messages and finding several journal entries advertising it ;__; Last year when I heard about this holiday existing at all, I swore to myself that I would do something special to participate in it the next time it rolled around. So! In order to celebrate the anniversary of that promise to myself... I'll make exactly the same one XD" He's awesome and you should check out his stuff: outlaw-pride.deviantart.com/While we obviously can't do anything for this year, perhaps we can plan to do something for it next year?

You can always plan for it. However, if you do ever plan on cosplaying to class as well, please be aware that 1) it can highly distracting to other students, 2) there can be some negative responses from other students (gossip, on and offline), and 3) (most importantly I believe) it can lower your grade. Teachers aren't so keen on students cosplaying/dressing up to class.
Otherwise, nothing is stopping you on cosplaying outside of class. If it's on a weekend next year, that's even better.

Professors care about what we wear? No one said anything about it when I went to class in my Mad-Eye Moody costume or the Harry Potter uniform last October.

Not all professors probably, but it's a risk.

Eh. I'll take my chances. If they say anything to me, I'll take it off until it's not obvious what I'm wearing is a costume, but if they don't, I'll just walk around in my cosplay glory.

That's a good way to go about it.
